If elected or re-elected, please describe legislation you expect to sponsor or co-sponsor.
If elected, I plan to sponsor or co-sponsor legislation that promotes social, economic, and environmental justice for the residents of New Hampshire.
What are the most important concerns facing you’ve heard from Manchester residents and how can you address those concerns if elected or re-elected?
Some of the more common concerns that I am hearing from the residents in my district are closely related to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic. The concerns are related to continued efforts to provide the correct safety measures to keep the spread of the virus down in NH. Getting those in industries who have been hit hardest in a position to get back to work and ensuring those who are unable to return to work ensuring they have easy access to unemployment and other state and federal resources until they can return to the workforce. If elected, I would work with both the state and federal delegations to ensure that the appropriate level of federal funds are being brought into New Hampshire and then ensuring that those funds are delivered in a timely fashion to the areas that can best help our residents; be it providing needed PPEs to the community, ensuring the NH Employment Security office has the resources they need, and working with our municipal government to ensure the community is receiving the resources they need to address the challenges we are facing related to the on-going pandemic.
New Hampshire legislators are citizen legislators and being a legislator is a significant time commitment. How much time per week can you spend on legislative duties while the Senate/House is in session?
Though I will continue to work my full-time job, if elected, I plan to devote 30-40 hours a week to legislative duties; if and when more is demanded, I will make sure that those hours are adequately attended to.
In your view, describe the atmosphere within the legislature over the past two years. Do you believe this atmosphere will continue and how would that affect how you approach this position if elected or re-elected?
Since I have not been a member of the legislature the last few years, what I have seen has been limited to what has made the rounds on social media, live streams while the House has been in session and what has made it into the local press. My impression is that much like our national politics, the New Hampshire legislature has become a hyper-partisan environment with more grandstanding to win political points rather than adequately tending to the business of the people. While the parties may not agree very often, those in public office owe it to their constituents to serve with honor and respect, but more importantly, to be working in the best interest of the people.
What is the most significant issue facing Manchester at the municipal level and how can you, as a legislator aid the city government on that issue?
Aside from the COVID-19 issues I have previously mentioned, I am concerned with the growing homeless population in Manchester and the ever-diminishing lack of affordable housing in the city. If elected, I will reach out to the Board of Mayor and Aldermen to get a better understanding of their current plans on how these issues are being approached and what resources they need from a state level. From there, I would work within the legislative body to help acquire the required funding or resources to produce a working plan to resolve these challenges.
With the uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 in the future, do you support the legislature meeting remotely?
I do support the legislature meeting remotely. We are fortunate enough to live in a time where we have the technology available to allow us to meet safely and remotely. While there is uncertainty around the continued impact of COVID-19, there should be no uncertainty for the people of New Hampshire that their government will continue to work for them.
