Running as Republican
At age31
The son of a bartender and a construction worker, Matt Mowers grew up in a working-class family that knew what hard work looked like.
As Matt and his wife Cassie raise their 13-month-old son Jack in Gilford, Matt hopes for a country in which his son can walk home safely from school, where he can speak his mind and debate issues freely, and where his education will give him an opportunity to succeed.
Matt’s time at the highest levels of the U.S. State Department showed him the very best of America, and it showed him the resolve of its enemies that can only be confronted with strong American leadership.
Matt advised the U.S. Secretary of State and was engaged on issues including stemming the tide of illegal immigration, defeating ISIS, making America energy independent and ensuring religious freedom. Later, he helped lead the $6 billion United States’ global HIV/AIDS program (PEPFAR) which has saved over 15 million lives and led to 2.6 million babies being born HIV-free. In that role, he engaged world leaders, faith-based organizations, and the private sector to enhance outcomes, while working to secure unanimous, bi-partisan support in Congress to re- authorize this life-saving program.
Matt also spearheaded efforts to bring humanitarian assistance to the people suffering under the socialist regime in Venezuela, a country he lived in briefly during his childhood.

If elected or re-elected, please describe legislation you expect to sponsor or co-sponsor.
We must immediately pass legislation that bans member of Congress and their immediate families from stock trading. It’s extremely disheartening to see politicians – Democrats and Republicans alike – get rich off their public service. Additionally, I am an ardent supporter of term limits and am proud to have signed the term limits pledge.
What is your overarching philosophy when it comes to the duties of being a member of Congress?
Chris Pappas and Joe Biden continue to put the interests of Washington ahead of Granite Staters. We need leaders who will take on the Washington establishment, not vote with party leadership 100% of the time. In Congress, I will work tirelessly to get inflation under control, secure the Southern Border, and help lower the cost of living for working-class families.
What is the most significant issue facing Manchester residents at the municipal level and how can you, as a member of Congress aid the city government and/or directly aid Manchester residents on that issue?
We need to crack down on the influx of drugs coming across the Southern Border, especially fentanyl -which is now the number one killer of those age 18-45.
I’m proud to be endorsed by the Manchester Police and Hillsborough County Sheriff Chris Connelly. Anyone in law enforcement will tell you that the fentanyl is coming across the Southern Border and making its way to sanctuary cities like Lawrence, Massachusetts where it is then distributed throughout the rest of the northern New England.
Securing the United States border and enforcing our laws will be a top priority for a new Republican congress and I look forward to getting down there to give people a voice again.
How do you feel the current divisive political climate in the United States will impact the Congress over the next two years and how would you navigate that divisiveness in Washington?
Trust in American democracy is at an all-time low because career politicians like Chris Pappas and Nancy Pelosi continue to rig the system for themselves while working families are hung out to dry and forced to foot the bill for their trillion-dollar spending sprees. The current system needs a major overhaul, which starts by moving the bureaucracy out of D.C, banning insider trading by members of Congress and their spouses, and imposing term limits for members of Congress. This will begin the process of restoring trust in our system.
In your conversations with voters, what is the most significant issue to them right now? How would you address that if elected or re-elected?
Inflation is by far the most pressing issue to Granite State families and small businesses. Tackling inflation starts by ending Washington’s addiction to spending, especially the massive spending spree that Joe Biden and Chris Pappas have been on for the past 18 months. We can begin to cut costs for New Hampshire families by making America energy independent again. Under new leadership in Congress, we will develop and implement a comprehensive energy plan that expands domestic oil production and aggressively pursues renewable energy sources to lower gas prices – one of the largest expenses for most households.
We will also prioritize moving critical manufacturing back to the United States to address the supply chain shortage that is contributing to inflation.
Most importantly, I will work tirelessly to ensure that every family can afford their grocery bill and that New Hampshire remains an economic leader for the country.
In your opinion, what were the five most significant pieces of legislation in Congress introduced over the last two years?
- VA Mission Act – This legislation, signed into law by President Trump, allows our veterans to seek primary and mental health care outside the VA if an appointment would take longer than a 20-day wait or 30-minute drive. While improvements are still needed, this is exactly the kind of thinking we need to make sure our veterans receive the care they deserve.
- Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act – This legislation was another great example of the America First mindset our country so sorely needs right now. This bill held other countries to higher standards for fighting human trafficking – a true evil that I helped fight while working at the State Department. When you compare this to Biden’s open border policies that are allowing human smuggling to occur on our own watch, you realize what a disgrace his Administration has been.
- Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act – In our 21st century workforce, nothing could be more important than promoting vocational work and training. I was proud that President Trump made skills-based learning a priority during his administration.
- Parents Bill of Rights Act – Parents should be responsible for their child’s education, not bureaucrats down in Washington D.C. Among other things, this bill requires local educational systems to post their curriculum online, requires schools to notify parents of their rights, and provides increased transparency in the school’s budget.
- American Energy Independence from Russia Act – This legislation authorizes the construction of the Keystone Pipeline, requires the Biden admin to develop an energy security plan, and restarts oil and gas leasing on federal lands. Unfortunately, Chris Pappas and Nancy Pelosi continue to block this commonsense legislation that would restore American energy independence.
How much time does a member of Congress need to spend in Washington to do their job properly and how much time does a member of Congress need to spend in their home state to do their job properly
If you have the honor of representing New Hampshire in Congress, you need to be present – both here and in Washington. This means no more proxy voting for freeloaders like Chris Pappas, who use Nancy Pelosi’s ‘get out of jail free card’ to avoid showing up to work. That’s simply unacceptable. Granite Staters wake up, go to work, and don’t get to phone it in on the taxpayer dime. I will show up – and most importantly, stand up – every single day for New Hampshire.
