If elected or re-elected, please describe any innovations, reforms or improvements you seek to introduce to your office.
I would get spending under control. In the last 2 years the Registry of Deeds budget has gone up 17 percent. That is unexceptable. Software has provided questionable success to the public. Finally, the facilities have issues.
What are the most important concerns facing you’ve heard from Manchester residents and how can you address those concerns if elected or re-elected?
The public has little exposure with the Registry, so concerns are minimal. As I stated in #1, those are the issues that will affect the public the most.
How does your background (excluding time serving in the position you are seeking) qualify you for the position you are seeking?
Multiple leadership positions in the NH House of Representatives and local responsibilities, i.e. school board and selectman, for starters. I also have a real estate salesperson license that I currently have inactive to provide me background in the process. Besides the public service positions I have held, I also have started two small businesses and been involved in effective leadership there.
In your view, describe the political atmosphere in New Hampshire over the last two years. Do you believe this will have any impact on your position?
The political atmosphere has been very partisan in the last 2 years. I hope things will smooth out after the elections in 2020. The position of Register of Deeds is actually non-partisan and should not be affected by the political climate.
How is county government unique from municipal or state government in New Hampshire? Do you believe it is necessary?
County government actually serves more people than other positions. What I mean by this is that State Rep seats serve 3900 people and municipal positions serve the community where they are located. As it relates to its necessity, all if not most county positions are in our state constitution. If you want to remove them, you have to change the constitution. However, to answer your questions, I believe they provide important and necessary functions to the public.
Do you believe that COVID-19 will impact county government in the future?
In nursing homes and prisons. Basically, where there are large groups of people that are confined to limited areas.
What were the biggest issues faced by the person serving in the role you are seeking over the past two years? How did they, or how did you, deal with those issues?
See question #1. As a county department that provides the accurate, assessable and secure possession of the public deeds, the challenges are reducing costs, accurate access and a secure and safe location
