Why are you running?
I am running to represent the hardworking people of Ward 9 and fight to stop the continued tax increases.
What uniquely qualifies you to be an Alderman?
With a financial background, I understand fiscal responsibility and how to provide exceptional services without taxing people out of the city.
What do you see as the main function of an Alderman?
To be a voice of the people in Ward 9. Without them, there is no Alderman. I represent those who vote for me, as well as the ones who don’t. (But vote for me please!)
What do you see as the key solution to reducing homelessness in the city?
The key solution is to enforce the current laws and ordinances and have a hard stance against new encampments popping up. We need to show that we are a city of laws, but also help those in needs. This will deter people from other cities to come here and allow the people of Manchester to use the resources we offer.
Do you feel that Manchester needs more affordable housing as defined by US HUD and NHHFA (costing no more than 30% of occupants' monthly income)? If so, how would you achieve this? If not, why not?
I believe the answer is more housing, with less restrictions. As a licensed realtor, the keyway to drive down costs is to increase the availability. If the BOMA can work with builders to encourage more building, this will increase the supply to meet the current demand.
What are your thoughts on public safety in the city?
Without safety, why would anyone want to live here? We need to work on increasing the funding for the Manchester Police Department, but also make the MPD an attractive department to work for which would attract quality candidates.
What are the strengths and weaknesses of the Manchester School District? What is the top need for improvement or change?
The top need for improvement for the School Board is to work within their means, and work on retention of students. I am proud to have graduated from Manchester Memorial, and want all students to have the experience that I had.
Do you support the budgetary autonomy of the Manchester School District's governing body? (currently known as the Board of School Committee, but proposed to be renamed as the Manchester School Board). If so, why (or why not?)
No. Alderman Sharonov and I agree wholeheartedly on this. The MSD should be a department of the city. The BOMA should be the only legislative authority for determining the budgets for all City Departments. This would prevent the School Board from overriding the tax cap and taxing the people of Ward 9 into the ground.
Anything else you'd like to add
I have enjoyed getting to know my neighbors and while doing my community clean ups have loved seeing people take time out of their day to make sure our Ward stays clean. I thank you for voting!
