Why are you running?
I am running to make sure that the people of Ward 12 are listened to and have a voice on our School Board. I believe that with the collaboration of our Board members we can make a difference in our schools and community.
What uniquely qualifies you for the Board of School Committee?
I have been a Teacher, Building Administrator, District Curriculum and Assessment Director and Coach in Manchester, Goffstown and Gilford School Districts. Overseas my positions included Teacher, Athletic Director, Principal and Curriculum Coordinator K-12. I have learned what works well with a unique and diversified student/parent population.
How would you rate the school district's current curriculum and why?
With the challenge of ever-changing School Curricula, Manchester has stayed current with standard practice. Manchester’s Curriculum follows State Guidelines and is up to date. Manchester has good oversite of the process under the supervision of District Administration and School Board.
What are your thoughts on the Manchester School District’s facilities? How many schools should the district have and what grades should each school have?
Manchester schools are in need of updating and the current administration has a plan in the works to address the situation. As far as the number of schools in the district, this should be based on population. Research shows small neighborhood schools work best. Grades K-8 would be ideal as those schools foster community. School size and grade levels are based on funding and pose a challenge.
What are your thoughts on the Manchester School District’s financial decisions in recent years?
Given the fact that the BOA controls the finances, I really do not want to second guess their past decisions. I do believe that it’s time to move forward and give financial authority to the School Board.
What is your perception of Manchester Proud's recent Community Partnership proposal?
I think it is a good thing. Any time a group is helping the community it is positive.
Do all students in the city have the access to a quality education regardless of where they live? Please elaborate on your answer.
Simply put, yes. Now that being said, there are problems with families having access to the internet, as became apparent this past year during the Covid Crisis. Schools have done their best to address this situation.
Should the Manchester School District be autonomous from the city government, a department of the city government or something else entirely?
Yes. School board members are elected officials – they are perfectly capable of making the right decisions based on the needs of the district. I believe they would be fiscally responsible to their constituents and if not they will be voted out.
Manchester School District's governing body (currently known as the Board of School Committee, but proposed to be renamed as the Manchester School Board). Do you support this? If so, why (or why not?)
Sure…no reason not to rename. Most people call it the School Board!
Anything else you'd like to add
I am in a position to devote my time and energy to serving on the School Board. I think I can help make a positive difference.
