Running forWard 10 Alderman
in 2023
Running as Non-Partisan Election
I’m Jim Mara, a Manchester native through and through. From attending Parker-Varney and Parkside to graduating from Manchester High School West, my connection to this city runs deep. My family and I now reside in Ward 10, just a stone’s throw from where I grew up. My parents, Bob and Trudy Mara, instilled in my five siblings and me a strong foundation of character and integrity. They taught us the importance of family dedication, personal responsibility, and the value of serving others. My daughter, a Memorial High School graduate, works as a mental health counselor for at-risk teens right here in Manchester. Meanwhile, my son is pursuing studies in cyber security and criminal justice at Plymouth State. My wife has dedicated years to the restaurant service industry, currently working in one of our downtown fine dining establishments. With 27 years in education, I’ve had the privilege of teaching in diverse communities, which has broadened my understanding of our education system and deepened my insights into our current school environment. I received an outstanding musical education within the Manchester school system. The dedicated music educators provided me with incredible opportunities to travel, participate in music festivals and showcase my musical talents in various locations. As a choral student under Richard Maynard at West High, I participated in the inaugural chorus exchange concert to Germany. At U.N.H., the exceptional music department allowed me to collaborate and perform alongside renowned jazz innovators such as Clark Terry, Louis Bellson, Snooky Young, Arturo Sandoval and many more. Subsequently, I embarked on a journey with Carnival Cruise Line as a musician, where I had the pleasure of meeting my future wife. Currently, I continue to share my musical gifts as a freelance performer throughout New England. A few years back, I ventured into photography. Returning to New Hampshire reignited my passion for history through imagery. From the millyard and city architecture to parks, trails, and the captivating sunrise over Lake Massabesic, I’ve focused my lens on these aspects of our city.
